Deidre Dreams
Creating has been the leading thread throughout my whole life.
As a child and young girl I was always writing stories, seeing fairies, mermaids and witch's cottages everywhere. My beloved gran taught me different stitchcrafts; embroidery, crochet, knitting. When we were visiting, we’d always be at the kitchen table with paper, yarn, pots of glue and glitter, creating something. Whether it was christmas cards, dolls, stuffed animals, patches to go on our aprons, with my gran there was always something that we could make bigger and better than if we’d bought it at a store.
Later, as a young woman I found a great love for sculpting with polymer clay, creating intricate jewelry and illustrations, loving to get lost in the smallest details, giving the stories in my mind's eye shape.
Throughout different phases of my life, one or more of the (stitch)crafts my gran taught me, keep coming back to the forefront. And of course, stitchcraft brings with it an inevitable love of yarn, so I also learned to spin.
For about a decade, creativity and creating art to sell was the main focus of my life. By now though, other things such as Astrology and writing have been added to the cauldron. And I’m sure there will be more in the future. I just can’t ever get enough of learning new things.
I'm a great fan of all the avenues of learning the internet provides us with, and most of the crafts I practice are self-taught through whatever I can find online whenever the Siren call lures me.
That is how I taught myself to spin art yarns, all the crochet and knitting intricacies and embroidery stitches my gran didn't get a chance to teach me when I was a little girl, and how I learned that the technique I use for my clay work is called 'clay embroidery'.
And while creating and selling my art is not my main focus anymore, creativity will never go away. Creating something with both my mind, imagination and my hands is a necessity for me. It helps me ground, it helps me think when I have life stuff to chew over and it helps me concentrate due to my ADHD brain needing to be able to fiddle at something with my hands when taking in information.
Creativity and especially stitchcraft is a sensory, sensual and magical experience to me. I have a great love for lush, handmade, handdyed materials,
that feel luxurious to the touch, that are vibrant in colour, high in quality and unique.
I knit and crochet with bamboo needles, because I love how they feel under my fingers and the sound they create when the yarn slides over them. I love textured, intensely coloured art yarns because of their elemental look and feel. I love the way my heart feels as if it swells from the excitement from a stitch work, illustration or piece of writing coming together even better than I hoped.
I love doing unconventional things with the creative expressions that call to me. A unique style comes naturally to me, as it will to you when you create what your heart wants to create, instead of creating what you think others want to see you create.
I still create on commission, so should you desire a handspun art yarn (creation), a handsculpted illustration or piece of jewelry, or a handstitched piece, you can also use the contact form for any inquiries.
See my illustrations, my handspun yarn creations, galleries of past one-off creations, or my creative Instagram or Facebook pages for inspiration.

In addition, I have also written a children’s picture book, which you can read about here (in NL).
